Descalso suffered the injury in the first inning, according to reports

Chicago Cubs infielder Daniel Descalso was forced to leave Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals with soreness in his left ankle, the team announced to reporters.

Descalso, who came into the game batting .247 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 92 plate appearances this season, suffered the injury while rounding first base on a single in the first inning of the contest, according to MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian:

Descalso was replaced in the lineup by Jason Heyward, who moved into right field. Kris Bryant, who started the game in right, was shifted to first base, and David Bote moved from third to second base.
