UPDATE: Cole Hamels will be placed on the injured list by the Chicago Cubs, according to manager Joe Maddon.
Chicago Cubs pitcher Cole Hamels has been removed from Friday's start against the Cincinnati Reds after just one inning.
Hamels allowed one run in the first inning, and was throwing warm-up pitches for the second inning when he walked off the mound.
Hamels was replaced by Mike Montgomery, who gave up a home run on the first pitch he threw.
The Cubs provided an update for fans a short time later, saying that Hamels "felt something" on his left side, and that he is still under evaluation by team trainers.
We'll keep fans updated on this developing story.
