Cubs Place Brian Duensing on DL, Bring Maples Back to Bullpen

Duensing has a 6.92 ERA this season with the Cubs

The Chicago Cubs have yet another injury to deal with, as reliever Brian Duensing has been placed on the 10-day disabled list.

Duensing, who has a 6.92 ERA in 35 games this season, was placed on the DL with left shoulder fatigue. He has struggled badly in the month of June, giving up at last a walk in six of his last seven appearances. He has given up 21 runs in just 26 innings of work in the month, and has seen his role diminish considerably as he’s struggled.

The reliever will be replaced on the active roster by Dillon Maples, who made his season debut last week. He pitched two shutout innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers in that game, striking out three and walking a pair of batters.

The Cubs will next take the field Sunday against the Minnesota Twins. First pitch is scheduled for 1:20 p.m.
