Cubs Announce Adbert Alzolay Will Get First Career Start

Alzolay will take on the Atlanta Braves at Wrigley Field, according to manager Joe Maddon

Chicago Cubs pitcher Adbert Alzolay dazzled fans in his first appearance with the team, and now he’ll get a chance to toe the rubber in a start for the first time in his big league career.

Prior to the Cubs’ game Saturday afternoon, manager Joe Maddon announced that Alzolay, the fourth-rated prospect in the team’s system according to MLB Pipeline, will get the start on Tuesday night against the Atlanta Braves at Wrigley Field.

Alzolay was called up to replace pitcher Kyle Hendricks in the team’s rotation, and after a successful relief outing in which he gave up one run in four innings of work he will get the chance to make a start for the team on their home field.

Maddon also announced that Jon Lester will start the series opener against the Braves on Monday, with Yu Darvish pitching Wednesday and Tyler Chatwood getting the ball on Thursday to finish off the set.
