Chicago Cubs Prospect Adbert Alzolay Heads to Injured List

Alzolay was removed from his start Wednesday with an arm injury

After being removed from a Wednesday minor league start, Chicago Cubs prospect Adbert Alzolay has been placed on the injured list, the team announced Friday.

Alzolay, who made his MLB debut earlier this season, was removed from a game against the Oklahoma City Dodgers on Wednesday. On Friday, the team announced that the hurler has been diagnosed with right biceps inflammation, and a timetable for his return is unknown.

In three total appearances with the Cubs, Alzolay posted a 1-1 record with a 7.15 ERA, giving up nine earned runs and four home runs in 11.1 innings of work.

He has a 5.48 ERA in 10 starts at the minor league level this season. He is currently the Cubs’ fourth-rated prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.

Alzolay’s 2018 season was also cut short due to injury, as he was diagnosed with a lat strain on May 29 of last season. The injury likely cost him a chance at making his big league debut a season ago, and his biceps injury is yet another speedbump on his way to a full-time role with the club.
