The Chicago Cubs had a four run lead in the ninth inning, but shoddy defense and even shakier pitching led to a gut-punch 7-5 defeat on Thursday night. 

Bryce Harper unloaded on a pitch from Derek Holland for a walk-off grand slam in the ninth inning, clinching a series sweep for the Phillies and another devastating loss for the Cubs. 

The inning started innocently enough, but an error by David Bote allowed Cesar Hernandez to reach base. After Scott Kingery hit a single, Brad Miller drove in Hernandez with an RBI single to make it 5-2. 

Pedro Strop then came into the game and allowed an RBI single to Roman Quinn to make it 5-3, then hit Rhys Hoskins to load the bases for Harper. 

Holland was brought into the game to try to get the final two outs, but Harper had other ideas, launching an upper-deck home run to send the Phillies to victory. 

The loss spoiled a tremendous outing for Yu Darvish, who gave up just four hits and struck out 10 batters in seven innings. 

Anthony Rizzo and Kyle Schwarber both hit home runs in the game, but it wasn't enough as the Cubs' road woes continued unabated.
