Chicago Blackhawks fans came to the United Center on Thursday night hoping for the team to get off to a good start in the playoffs, but they came away disappointed as the team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Nashville Predators.
nThe loss puts the Blackhawks in a 1-0 series hole, and not surprisingly given their history of playoff success under head coach Joel Quenneville, this team hasn’t encountered this obstacle much.
nSo how have they done when they go down 1-0 in a best-of-seven series? To help answer that question, we’ve put together a detailed list of the Quenneville-era Blackhawks and how they do when they get off on the wrong foot in a series.

nThe Blackhawks lost in the opening game of the series, with Sami Salo scoring a goal with a minute to go in regulation to help knock them off. They were also down 2-0 in the second game of the series, but they stormed back and eventually scored six goals in a 6-3 blowout win. They would ultimately win four of the next five games, including a 7-5 slugfest at the United Center in Game 6.

nIn a great learning experience, the Blackhawks got blown out in the first game of the series at Joe Louis Arena. After that the team largely settled down, losing in overtime in Game 2 and converting in Game 3’s overtime period to bring the series down to a 2-1 deficit.
nnUnfortunately that was all the Blackhawks could muster, as they got blown out in Game 4 and lost Game 5 despite an incredible performance by Cristobal Huet.

nEveryone remembers the amazing comeback and win in Game 5 of the series, but the Blackhawks lost the first game at home against the Predators, and did so in lackluster fashion as they fell 4-1. Fortunately for the Blackhawks, they came back strong and won Game 2, and even though they lost 4-1 in Game 3, they still managed to win the series by taking the final three games.

nOnce again, the Blackhawks lost the first game of a series at home in embarrassing fashion, falling 5-1 in the opener at the United Center. They bounced back with three straight wins, and even though Vancouver took Game 5 in Chicago, the Blackhawks still finished things off with an emphatic 5-1 win in Game 6.
Result: Canucks Win in Seven
nThis series got off to a ridiculously awful start for the Blackhawks, as they lost the first three games and scored five total goals. They did make a furious comeback, scoring 16 goals in their next three games, but they fell in overtime in Game 7 to thwart an historic comeback.
Result: Coyotes Win in Six
nThe Blackhawks and Coyotes played five straight games that went to overtime, with the Coyotes taking the first, third, and fourth games in the series. The Blackhawks did win two straight games in Phoenix to stay in the series, but their goaltending and defense faltered in Game 6 as they lost the series.

nThe Blackhawks got off to a rough start in this series, losing a triple-overtime thriller in Game 1 and then losing again in overtime in Game 2. After they shook those losses off, the Blackhawks ended up reeling off three straight victories, clinching the series and advancing to the next round.

They lost Game 5 as well, but bounced back to win Games 6 and 7 to punch their ticket to the Stanley Cup Final.

Once again having to open on the road, the Blackhawks lost in a 1-0 overtime decision to the Blues in Game 1, but bounced back and won Game 2 in St. Louis. The Blackhawks ultimately lost Games 3 and 4 at the United Center, came back and won the next two games, and lost on a late goal in Game 7 that eliminated them from the postseason.
