In this edition of Bears Bites, we take a look at some of the reactions around the web to the moves the Chicago Bears made in free agency on Tuesday, as well as what some experts think of the job that all 32 teams did in the first day of the signing period.
-We start out with the biggest splash the Bears made all day, which was to sign DE Lamarr Houston away from the Oakland Raiders. Houston is a solid run-stopper and can get around the edge on the pass rush, both of which were things that Shea McClellin was unable to do. [CBS Chicago]
-Unfortunately for the Bears, the Houston signing meant that they needed to free up some salary cap room to pursue other deals, and the axe ultimately fell on the neck of Julius Peppers, who was released by the team. [ESPN Chicago]
-The Bears desperately needed a strong safety that could do a better job than Major Wright did in the 2013 season for the team, and they got exactly that as they brought in Ryan Mundy on a two-year contract. [CSN Chicago]
-The Bears also made one roster move to bring back a player from the 2013 squad, signing linebacker DJ Williams to a one-year contract. [Bear Goggles]
-Despite all of the moves the Bears made, there is one Chicago columnist who does not think that they necessarily made the team all that much better. [Chicago Tribune]
-With the flurry of deals that the Bears made on Tuesday, one player that is still not back on the roster at this point is quarterback Josh McCown. Will he return to the team next year?
