Chicago Cubs infielder Addison Russell suffered a nasal contusion after he was hit in the face by a pitch during Sunday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Russell, who was starting at shortstop in place of the injured Javier Báez, was batting in the third inning of the game when he was hit in the face by a pitch from Milwaukee’s Adrian Houser.

Russell immediately went to a knee after being hit, but stayed in the game after being evaluated by trainers. He stole second base and later scored on a throwing error by Christian Yelich, but was then removed from the game.

David Bote moved from third base to shortstop after the injury, and Ian Happ played third base for the remainder of the game.

The Cubs announced that Russell had suffered a bruised nose after being hit by the pitch, and is currently being evaluated for concussion symptoms. It is unclear what his status will be for the team’s next series against the San Diego Padres.
