Yankees Offer Youkilis $12 Million Deal

White Sox third baseman mulling free agent offers

The White Sox may be on the verge of losing their third baseman.

MLB.com tweeted Thursday that The New York Yankees have made a one-year, $12 million offer to free agent Kevin Youkilis.

The Yankees are in dire need of a third baseman with Alex Rodriguez scheduled for hip surgery and expected to miss half of the 2013 season.

The White Sox traded for Youkilis in June, and are unlikely to make a competing offer, especially with the pending signing of veteran infielder Jeff Keppinger to a 3-year $12 million contract.

If Youkilis ends up with the Yankees, he'll be playing for a team that was his bitter rival during his many years with the Boston Red Sox.

Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski is also on the market, but signs also point to him signing elsewhere. And apparently, the Yankees are also looking for a catcher ...
