Wildcats Get Shaved for Charity

Head Coach Fitzgerald goes bald to help fight childhood cancer

Sometimes, apparently, donating money just isn't enough.

In an effort to raise awareness for the fight against childhood cancer, Northwestern Football Coach Pat Fitzgerald donated his hair, getting shaved bald as part of St. Baldrick's festivities Wednesday.

“Our entire coaching staff has a great passion for this organization and its mission," Fitzgerald said, before turning his head over to a barber at Jay's Barber Shop in Evanston.   "We hope our small contributions will create more awareness for pediatric cancer and the individuals it has impacted.”

TV cameras rolled as the two-time All-American linebacker lost his locks.

The St. Baldrick's foundation has raised more than $51 million for childhood cancer research since 2000.
