Sox to Help Host Jackie Robinson World Series Watch Party

The Chicago White Sox have teamed up with city leaders to host a watch party Thursday as the Jackie Robinson West All-Stars team begins its quest for a Little League World Series title.

A large video screen will be set up at Jackie Robinson Field, located at 10700 S. Aberdeen starting at 1:30 p.m.

The Chicago team of 11- and 12-year-olds will be facing a team from Lynwood, Wash., in the first round of the tournament.

The watch party will include an appearance by Sox mascot Southpaw, and former players.

"Six players on the Jackie Robinson West team also play for the White Sox ACE program, so we are doubly proud of their tremendous accomplishments," White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said in a news release. "These kids already are champions in our eyes before a single pitch is thrown in Williamsport."

The Jackie Robinson West All-Stars are the first Chicago team to qualify for the Little League Baseball World Series since 1983 and the 15th time an Illinois team has advanced.

Dick's Sporting Goods is holding a promotion to raise funds for some of the player's families to travel to the tournament. The retailer has created custom t-shirts that can be purchased at the 1100 S. Canal St. store.
