SNL Super Fans Set To Reunite

'Da Bears' making a one-night comeback for charity

The lines are classic everywhere. It's not a local thing. But in Chicago, the classic Super Fans sketches from Saturday Night Live -- circa 1994 or so -- have a special resonance. For most, they're a classic caricature of the meatball sports fan we all encounter from time to time. For the meatballs, they're a way of life. Either way, they mean something a little extra in this city.

So it's probably no surprise that this would qualify as a valid fundraising opportunity: On Friday night, Robert Smigel and George Wendt will reprise their famous roles at the Drake Hotel in downtown Chicago. The event will benefit Have Dreams, a Chicago non-profit focused on helping children and families affected by autism. Causes don't get much more noble than that.

The event starts at 9 p.m. in the Gold Coast Room of the Drake. Prospective jokes on the menu: Ditka, Ditka, Michael Jordan, Ditka, Bears, Bulls, polish sausage, Ditka. Except way, way funnier than that sentence. The YouTube clips don't lie.
