Equestrian: USA Wins Silver in Olympic Team Show Jumping

Team USA won back-to-back golds in Athens and Beijing, but suffered a tough break in London

The U.S. show jumping team of Lucy Davis and Barron, Kent Farrington and Voyeur, Beezie Madden and Cortes ‘C’, and McLain Ward and Azur won the silver medal in team competition on Wednesday.

The U.S. finished the two-round competition on five faults, behind gold winner France, but and ahead of Germany who won the bronze.

Madden had to withdraw from the competition Wednesday morning because of an injury to her horse. Ward was one of only five to jump clear on the day. Farrington only incurred one time penalty, while Davis had four faults for a rail down.

The team was looking to take back the gold, having earned back–to-back gold titles in the Athens and Beijing games, but a tough break in London put an end to their consecutive reign.

The event also served as the third individual qualifier. All three U.S. entries advanced to Friday’s two-round individual final, in which scores are wiped clear.
