Marathon Expo Kicks Off Friday Morning

Runners must pick up participant packets themselves

McCormick Place will be a packed place Friday as runners participating in Sunday's Bank of America Chicago Marathon flock to the facility for the Health & Fitness Expo.

The event features more than 200 exhibitors offering the newest designs in running footwear, apparel and accessories, as well as the latest developments in sports, fitness and nutrition.

It's also where 45,000 runners will pick up their participant packets for the big race. Enhanced security measures put in place this year require all runners to collect their packets themselves. In previous years, the packets containing a numbered bib, gear check tag, timing device and a shirt could be picked up by a friend or family member.

The expo runs Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 13: NBC Chicago broadcasts the 2013 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. NBCChicago.com will offer a livestream beginning at 7 a.m. CT.
