Julie Hamos to Declare Run for Congress

Opportunity could be knocking for Rep. Julie Hamos. Evanston's state representative is looking to move up to the national scene by taking over a vacated congressional seat.

The Evanston Democrat is scheduled to announce at a Tuesday afternoon news conference that she's running for Congress.

Hamos wants the 10th Congressional District seat Republican Rep. Mark Kirk now holds.

Kirk isn't running for re-election because he's one of the Republicans who wants President Barack Obama's old U.S. Senate seat, which Democrat Roland Burris now holds. Burris isn't running for a full term.

Hamos has a decade of experience in the Illinois General Assembly.

The 10th district she wants to represent runs north of Chicago to almost Wisconsin.

Democrat Dan Seals, who has lost twice to Kirk, is also running.

Hamos is set to formally enter the race at an event in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park.
