Candidate Creates App to Connect Residents, City

"Chicago Works" lets citizens make service requests.

Potholes can be a big problem in Chicago during the winter months, but one aldermanic candidate wants to help ease the pain.

Ameya Pawar, a candidate for alderman in the 47th Ward, has developed an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch that lets Chicagoans report potholes, graffiti or broken street lights.

The application, "Chicago Works," uses Global Positioning System information to pinpoint the problem and then sends the report, along with a photo, to Pawar's campaign office.  The "Renew Chicago" team will then forward all the collected information to elected officials.

He said he hopes to get the app integrated into the city's 311 system.

Once the pilot program has ended, Chicago Works will have a link for Chicagoans to determine who their alderman is and then enable them to contact aldermen directly.
