RUNNING FOR
COOK COUNTY BOARD PRESIDENT

TONI PRECKWINKLE (D)

OPPONENT
ROGER KEATS (R)
THOMAS TRESSER (G)

The Woman: One of the more impressive things about Alderman Toni Preckwinkle is how she managed to maintain her independent, anti-Daley label and still manage to trounce the competition during the primaries. She didn't exactly take on the Chicago Machine when she beat the highly unpopular Todd Stroger back in February, but she came out looking good nonetheless.

Preckwinkle's signature issue is a sales tax cut, and she's promised to resign from the Cook County Board presidency if she fails to deliver.  Additionally, her priorities are to create fiscal stability and tax relief, strengthening the Health Care System, and tackle the issue of overcrowding in Cook County's Jail.

The Knock: Though she beat Democratic rivals, Chicago's unions were slow to get on board with her campaign (they backed Stroger until the bitter end.)

The Strategy:  She's running on the platform of change while distancing herself from Todd Stroger. Additionally, she's managed to raise significant amounts for her campaign in comparison with her opponents.
