The principal of a Waukesha middle school said the two sixth-graders accused of stabbing a classmate are good students with no prior behavioral issues.
Mark Wegner said there were no warning signs of what was about to happen to the 12-year-old girl. She was stabbed 19 times in a Waukesha park last Saturday.
Wegner said all three girls were friends and were "just normal students" who participated in class. The principal says the crime has been difficult for everyone at Horning Middle School to comprehend.
A criminal complaint charging the girls says they were trying to pay tribute to the fictional character Slender Man when they lured the victim into the woods and stabbed her. The complaint says the girls believed the character was real.

The family of the 12-year-old girl who was stabbed said she's a "fighter" and is improving every day.
A fundraising website set up by the family says the girl has been walking the halls of the hospital with her dad and has been watching TV in her wheelchair.
Her parents say they've been trying to limit visitors because she becomes overwhelmed easily. The girl is hospitalized at Waukesha Memorial in fair condition.
The parents expressed appreciation for the love and support from relatives, friends and community. The family is asking for homemade purple hearts with encouraging messages to put up in the girl's room.
