A bunch of Greek gods living among the humans causing all sorts of mischief? That's about right.
Christopher Walken, John Turturro, Alicia Silverstone, Sharon Stone, Edie Falco, Rosie Perez, Phylicia Rashad and Oliver Platt have all joined the cast for the big-screen adaptation of "Gods Behaving Badly," based on Marie Phillips' 2007 novel, reported Movieline.
The book is being adapted by
U.S. & World
Here's a synopsis for the book from Phillips' website:
Being immortal isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Life’s hard for a Greek god in the 21st century: nobody believes in you any more, even your own family doesn’t respect you, and you’re stuck in a dilapidated hovel in north London with too many siblings and not enough hot water. But for Artemis (goddess of hunting, professional dog walker), Aphrodite (goddess of beauty, telephone sex operator) and Apollo (god of the sun, TV psychic) there’s no way out…Until a meek cleaner and her would-be boyfriend come into their lives, and turn the world literally upside down.
The new film version will move the action across The Pond, per the official announcement of the film:
The film tells the story of the Greek Gods, alive and well and living in a brownstone in New York City, as they cross paths with a young couple, Kate and Neil. The intersection of the Gods and the mortals threatens not only the couple’s budding relationship, but the future of everything else. Kate will be played by Alicia Silverstone and Neil by Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The gods are: Aphrodite — Sharon Stone, Apollo — Oliver Platt, Artemis — Edie Falco, Demeter — Phylicia Rashad, Dionysus — Nelsan Ellis, Eros — Gideon Glick, Hades — John Turturro, Hermes — Henry Zebrowski, Persephone — Rosie Perez and Zeus — Christopher Walken.
We like a lot of the people involved in this film and the concept has a lot of possibilities, but in the absence of a name director, the cast is all role players. Maybe they can make it work, but honestly, when was the last time you looked at your significant other and said, "Hey--that new Phylicia Rashad movie looks great"?
