Iraqi Town Liberated From ISIS After U.S. Airstrikes

Iraqi security forces and Shiite militiamen liberated the town of Amirli Sunday following a two-month siege by ISIS militants, officials told NBC News. The news comes hours after the Pentagon announced the military was conducting airstrikes and dropping humanitarian aid to the city along with aircraft from Australia, France and Britain at the request of the Iraqi government. Thousands of Shiite civilians were starved of food and water for nearly two months by Islamic militants, the Pentagon said. American aircraft have launched 115 strikes across Iraq since President Obama authorized air power on Aug. 7.
