50 Die as Thousands Flee Gaza Shelling

Around 35,000 residents fled the Gaza neighborhood of Shejaia on Sunday after a night of Israeli shelling killed at least 50 and left the streets strewn with bodies, including those of children, NBC News reported. Israel said it had expanded its ground offensive in Gaza and militants kept up rocket fire into the Jewish state with no sign of a diplomatic breakthrough to end the worst fighting between Israel and Hamas in two years. The Israeli military announced a two-hour "humanitarian hiatus" on Sunday but it did not last long.
