Thomas Haden Church On Board for “Killer Joe”

Fresh off his fine turn in the unfortunately overlooked "Easy A," Thomas Haden Church has lined up another comedy, this one about a hit man hired by a disgruntled son.

Church has been cast alongside Matthew McConaughey and Emile Hirsch for "Killer Joe," from director William Friedkin and based on the play of the same name from Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tracy Letts ("August: Osage County").

McConaughey will play the title role in the dark comedy, a cop hired by Hirsch to kill his mother.

The film reunites Letts with director Friedkin, who previously collaborated in 2006 to bring Letts' play "Bug," about an Iraq War vet and a young woman holed up in a hotel room infested with bugs (starring Ashley Judd and Michael Shannon), to the big screen.

"Killer Joe" is scheduled to start shooting Nov. 8 in and around New Orleans, and again we must note with a touch of sadness that this project does not appear to be in any way associated with that ripping Jimmy Osmond tune of the same name.
