The Trailer for Kevin Smith's “Red State” Looks Pretty Good

We're still harboring resentment over "Cop Out," and we're not really big horror fans, but we have to admit that the trailer for Kevin Smith's "Red State" is kinda great.

Smith has said that this new film was inspired in part by the likes of hatemonger Fred Phelps, leader of the Westboro Baptist Church, who gained fame by leading his followers to picket military funerals, holding signs with slogans like "God Hates Fags," which also happens to be the name of their websites.

The film will be showing out of competition at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Their site has this synopsis for the film:

"Red State begins by following three horny high school boys who come across an online ad from an older woman looking for a gang bang. Boys being boys, they hit the road to satisfy their libidinal urges. But what begins as a fantasy takes a dark turn as they come face-to-face with a terrifying "holy" force with a fatal agenda."

Needless to say, the trailer is super creepy.

In addition to great source material, the film features a fantastic cast, including Stephen Root, John Goodman, Melissa Leo, Michael Angarano and Kevin Pollack.
