Teen Charged with Murdering Newborn After Body Found in Plastic Bag

The body was found around 8:30 a.m. last Saturday with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached

An 18-year-old woman was charged with murder after she allegedly placed her newborn baby inside a plastic bag and left him outside in a gangway where he was later found dead.

Ana Rosa Mora, of the 2700 block of North Hamlin Avenue, was charged with first-degree murder after police say she admitted to putting her infant in a plastic bag and leaving him in a gangway between two buildings in the city’s Logan Square neighborhood.

Area North Detectives were investigating after the infant boy was found dead in the 2700 block of North Hamlin Avenue last weekend.

The body was found around 8:30 a.m. last Saturday with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached, authorities said.

"He was wrapped inside a plastic bag and he was around like nine months already so he was fully developed," said Andrea Vazque, who found the baby.

Police said Mora was arrested just before 1 p.m. Friday.

Officials said in court Saturday that Mora was on track to graduate from Kelvyn Park High School in June and had plans to go to college, according to the Chicago Tribune.

She was reportedly held on $500,0000 bail.
