Scoop: Will ‘Got Talent' Pick Correct Winner?

Other Scoops: Glassman dumps Jon and a slow week for tabs

The “America’s Got Talent” semifinals took place this week, and given the wide range of talent — from foul mouthed grandmothers to attractive cancer-surviving opera singers and percussionists who beat upon junkyard goods — the show could be appropriately re-named “America’s Got A Very Broad Definition of Talent.”

So as the Sept. 16 finale approaches, it does make one wonder whether it is possible for America to ultimately vote the best possible talent into the winner’s slot.

“I do think America knows what it wants. They want the American dream,” judge Piers Morgan said. “And I think America does choose the right person. Terry Fator (season two’s winner) is the prime example — he is living out the dream and he’s extremely successful.” Fator, a ventriloquist, now headlines at the Mirage in Las Vegas.

Fellow judge Sharon Osbourne agreed that America does get it right, but has different reasons for thinking so. “I like it here in America better (as opposed to the U.K.) so I just want (Americans) to be right,” she said.

Jon Gosselin minus one girlfriend
Jon Gosselin once told In Touch magazine that girlfriend Hailey Glassman was “amazing … like a breath of fresh air.” Apparently, the winds have changed.

In Touch is reporting that the relationship between the “Jon & Kate Plus 8" dad, 32, and Glassman, 10 years his junior, is now over.

According to the magazine, Glassman “became suspicious” when Jon was linked to former reporter Kate Major. But the final straw came after Jon traveled to Las Vegas without Glassman in late August and was photographed partying poolside at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino surrounded by bikini-clad women.

“When Jon came back, he said very little to Hailey, but his phone spilled the details,” a friend of Glassman’s told In Touch. “He had several text messages and photos taken with girls, including a showgirl. Hailey was shocked that he didn’t bother to delete any of it from his phone … She doesn’t want to be with him anymore.”

Robert Pattinson’s fame: ‘Like a Beatle’
“Twilight” star Robert Pattinson is feeling the crush of his sudden fame, according to some of his co-stars.

“I’ve gotten my share of press and recognition, but nothing to the extent of people chasing Rob down the street,” co-star Ashley Greene, who plays Alice Cullen, told Life & Style. “It’s like he’s one of the Jonas Brothers or a Beatle. How do you deal with that?”

Pattinson himself has admitted to press that he struggles with the newfound attention.

“I can’t remember what my normal life is like,” the actor admits. “Walking down the street comes with screaming. It’s strange. You have to change.”

Keeping tabs on a slow week
It was a tough week for celebrity magazines. Here’s the deal: Obviously, Labor Day falls on Monday. Guess which day most of the magazines go to press?

During weeks like this one, the Monday holiday usually translates into a pretty tepid roundup of covers and no clear winner.

Star’s cover boasts “Kardashians at war.” Really? The wars I know of are overseas; let’s not be so histrionic.

And then there’s In Touch and Jessica Simpson’s “Desperate Hookup” with ex John Mayer. I’m not buying it (literally). So this week, there’s no ringing endorsement of any of the mags. Here’s hoping for better choices next week.
