WATCH: Robert Downey Jr. Delivers Bionic Arm to 7-Year-Old

Like many 7-year-old boys, Alex Pring loves superheroes.

But for Alex, who was born with a partially developed right arm, even everyday movements — like hugging his mom — can be a challenge.

That changed when he got a surprise visit from one of his favorite superheroes: Iron Man.

Robert Downey Jr., who plays the billionaire inventor and superhero Tony Stark in Marvel's "Iron Man" movies, met Alex to give him a special gift: a bionic arm.

Naturally, the actor brought along an arm from the "Iron Man" suit to match. When Alex tried on his arm, the two fist-bumped — metal hand to metal hand.

The fully-functional bionic arm was built and designed by Albert Manero, a doctoral student in aerospace engineering at the University of Central Florida. Manero and his team 3D-printed the battery-powered bionic arm, which Alex can control just by moving his bicep muscle, according the Enabling The Future blog.
