Sarah Palin defended her stance on Paul Revere, saying on “Fox News Sunday” that she knows her Revolutionary War history. “I didn’t mess up,” Palin said. “I answered candidly.” The 2008 VP nominee was criticized over the accuracy of her comments about the revolutionary, saying, “He warned the Americans that the British were coming, and they were going to try to take our arms and we got to make sure that we were protecting ourselves." And some local experts are backing up her story. According to 1798 letter, Revere describes how after his capture by British officers, he warned them with church bells and warning shots that they would be confronting "five hundred Americans" the Boston Herald reported. "But I don't know if that's really what Mrs. Palin was referring to," said Patrick Leehey of the Paul Revere House.
