China Releases Dissident Artist

Prominent Chinese artist Ai Weiwei is back home after having been detained nearly three months ago as part of a government crackdown on activists. The official Xinhua News Agency said Ai confessed to tax evasion, though his family has said the charges were trumped up because of Ai’s past anti-Communist Party comments. "I'm sorry I can't (talk), I am on probation, please understand," Ai said after his release. The artist, who famously helped design Beijing’s Bird’s Nest stadium for the 2008 Olympics, faces the threat that his case could be reopened at any time, according to MSNBC.
