Two data recorders from the commuter train that derailed while rounding a riverside curve, killing four people, may provide information on the speed of the train, how the brakes were applied and the throttle setting, a member of the NTSB said Monday, Dec. 2. The NTSB was downloading data from a recorder previously found in the rear locomotive in the train that derailed Sunday in New York. A second recorder was found in the front car of the train and has been sent to Washington for analysis, NTSB board member Earl Weener said.

NTSB officials said that the train's black box shows it was traveling at 82 mph before crashing on a sharp curve where trains are required to go 30 mph, NBC New York reported.

NTSB member Earl Weener said information retrieved from the train's two data recorders shows the train was going 82 mph on a turn when it should have been going no more than 30 mph. NBC New York reported. NTSB will continue to interview the crew, including the engineer. The alcohol breath tests given at the scene were all negative, and the drug test results are still pending, according to the NTSB.
