Jessica Chastain to Star in Princess Di Affair Film

So first there was all this handwringing because all the American superhero roles were going to Brits, but now the script has been flipped by Jessica Chastian, who will follow in Meryl Streep's footsteps to play an iconic Briton.

Chastain is attached to play the lead role of Princess Diana in "Caught in Flight," reported IndieWire. The film will tell the story of a secret two-year affair the royal had with a Pakistan-born heart surgeon.

The princess met Dr. Hasnat Khan in 1995, at the Royal Brompton Hospital, while visiting a friend who was recovering from heart surgery. Diana was so serious about "Mr. Wonderful," as she called him, that she wore traditional dress while visiting his parents in Pakistan, and seriously considered converting to Islam so she could marry him.

Khan maintained his silence about the affair for more than a decade, before spilling the beans to The Telegraph in 2008

The script by Stephen Jeffreys ("The Libertine") is said to paint Diana in a not very flattering light, and shows her all but stalking Khan after he broke off the relationship. Oliver Hirschbiegel ("Downfall") is directing.
