Israel and Hamas Resume Fighting; U.N. to Meet

Despite a 24-hour cease-fire proposal, Israel and the militant group that rules the Gaza Strip continued launching attacks Sunday, NBC News reported. Hamas asked for a cease-fire hours after Israel resumed attacks on the enclave, but 492 rockets were launched at Israel. Meanwhile, the Israeli army launched over 30 attacks on the Gaza strip Sunday, killing 14 people, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. More than 1,030 Palestinians have died in the course of the 20-day conflict, while 46 Israelis have been killed. The U.N. Security Council has scheduled a meeting at midnight to adopt a statement calling for "an immediate and unconditional humanitarian cease-fire," the Associated Press reported.
