Hilary Duff Says She's Excited to Play a Mean Girl

Make no mistake: Hilary Duff loves being the mean girl.

The all-grown-up-but-still-bubbly former Disney tween queen got a major kick out of playing a sharp-tongued mean girl during her guest shot on Thursday’s episode of “Community.”

“I haven't really done anything where I got to be a b---- before, so it was exciting,” said Duff, who plays Meghan, queen bee of a vicious popular pack abusing the “Community” cast until Abed (Danny Pudi) infiltrates them and shakes them to their core.

“Danny kind of comes into their clique and just, like, mutilates everyone with these horrible insults – and he’s very good at it,” Duff said, laughing. “I have this big scene where I walk into the school cafeteria and call him out. Everybody hears and he ends up really embarrassing me. And obviously status is very important to my character, and we just go back and forth the whole time. It’s very funny because they’re in community college – they’re old enough to know better.”

The actress was especially smitten with co-star Ken Jeong, whose Senor Chang follows a milk-out-of-the-nose gag with an ad-libbed nod to Duff’s real-life sister.

“He was like, 'Oh, my God, that girl looks exactly like Haylie Duff.' And it wasn't written or anything, but I thought it was hilarious! I almost fell down to my knees his delivery was so, so funny. And my sister loves him, so when I told her that story she was just dying!'”

Speaking of her sister, Duff was tempted to take a little revenge on “Community” leading man Joel McHale, who’s taken his share of swipes at Haylie on his E! clip-o-rama “The Soup.”

“Haylie and her boyfriend Nick love ‘The Soup,’ and so she has pretty thick skin and didn't care so much,” Duff said, “but when I saw Joel, I was like, ‘I'm just going to push you down – like, I just need to. It just needs to happen. I can push you down really fast, and then say, 'Thanks for having me on your show.” But he was like, ‘Oh no – what did I say about you or your sister? I don't know, I don't know!’”
