A handcuffed suspect escaped from custody and bolted from authorities on a stolen ATV Tuesday, leading police on a bizarre chase before wiping out in a muddy pool of water, NBC affiliate KFOR reports.
The Jones Police Department said the man was being placed under arrest, accused of stealing copper wire, when he got loose and fled into the nearby woods.
The suspect then stole a four-wheel ATV and was chased by the owner on another four-wheeler, but lost his trail. He was later spotted by authorities and a chase ensued.
Helicopter pilot Mason Dunn, who was following the chase, said the suspect was pushing the four-wheeler to its top speeds, going about 70 miles per hour as he zoomed through Edmond and into Logan County, northeast of Oklahoma City.
The chase continued on a rural dirt road where another police vehicle was waiting, blocking the road. As the suspect tried driving around, he hit a muddy pool of water and lost control of the ATV. As the four-wheeler overturned, he fell off and surrendered to police.
The suspect's name was not released.
