Elizabeth Banks Eying “Welcome to the People” With Chris Pine

For reasons that remain unclear, Elizabeth Banks' dogged pursuit of dramatic roles continues.

Banks is in talks to join Chris Pine in "Welcome to the People," reported Risky Business, as a pair of siblings who've never met.

"Welcome to the People," written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jody Lambert, tells the story of a man who goes home for his estranged father's funeral, only to learn that he has an 30-year-old alcoholic sister and 12-year-old nephew, who's been enrolled in an anger management program after blowing up his school's swimming pool. More awkward still is the fact that his father's will calls for him to deliver $150,000 to the sister, money he decides to keep for himself. However, he can't resist the temptation to meet his new-found family members, but does so without revealing his relationship to them.

Kurtzman and Orci, of course, are the duo that wrote the most recent "Star Trek," and "Welcome" will represent Kurtzman's directorial debut.

Pine can be seen Friday alongside Denzel Washington in "Unstoppable," about two men who must stop a runaway train loaded with tons of explosive chemicals, from destroying a Pennsylvania town. Banks' next film is "The Next Three Days," out Nov. 19, starring Russell Crowe as a man whose decides to break his wife out of jail after she's been convicted of murder.
