Chris Hemsworth Talks Bulking Up For ‘Thor'

Chris Hemsworth made a splash when he turned up looking toned and superhero-esque over the weekend at Comic-Con in San Diego, but the Australian actor revealed he was actually physically larger when he filmed "Thor."

"Is this always you or did you have to really bulk up for this?" AccessHollywood.com's Laura Saltman asked Marvel's newest superhero, whose film is set to hit screens on May 6, 2011.

"No, I had to really bulk up," Chris explained. "I'm actually a lot lighter [now] than I was when we shot the film."

Chris even suggested that the publicity photos making the rounds now showing him as Thor, blessed with godlike biceps, are somewhat enhanced.

"CGI," he laughed.

Still, Chris put in plenty of effort to turn his already ripped frame into a superhero's body for the part of the Norse god and future Avenger.

"It was a lot of food consumption and a lot of working out," he said. "You know, usual story."

Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the film will follow Thor as he is cast down to earth for being an arrogant fighter, only to find himself battling the dark forces of Asgard and becoming a hero to the humans.

Marvel fans are already excited, as is Chris, who is about to see his life and star status change drastically, since his previously most prominent (albeit small) role, as Kirk's dad in J.J. Abrams's 2009 re-boot of "Star Trek."

"I feel very positive about all of it — and excited," he said of the attention already starting to come his way.

"You could guess what you think is gonna happen and expect, but you never really know.
