Bells Will Toll to Mark 9th Anniversary of Virginia Tech Shooting

Bells will toll in Virginia this weekend to mark the ninth anniversary of the deadly shooting at Virginia Tech.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared April 16 Virginia Tech Remembrance Day. On that day in 2007, a student killed 32 people at the school before he killed himself.

The bell at the Capital Square Bell Tower will ring 32 times at 9:43 a.m. Saturday, once for each of the victims, before a moment of silence. The state flag will be flown at half-staff on all local, state and federal buildings in the state.

There will be a blood drive in remembrance of the victims Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Virginia Tech Richmond Center.
