Graphic video obtained by NBC News shows sheriff's deputies shooting a Taser on a mentally ill Georgia man while he was restrained in a chair. He later died in police custody.
Two Georgia sheriff's deputies and a health care worker are being tried for involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of 22-year-old Matthew Ajibade.
In the minute-long video, shown in court on Friday, Ajibade is heard screaming after the stun gun is discharged while he sits in a restraint chair. The video comes from a camera attached to the Taser; the voices heard on the tape are distorted.
Ajibade had allegedly hit his girlfriend and broken a deputy's nose while in the midst of what his family described as a bipolar episode, and was handcuffed to a restraint chair in an isolation cell when the Taser was used. He was found dead in the chair in the early morning hours of January 2.
Prosecutors say the tape shows he was restrained, NBC News reports; the deputy who used the Taser has said Ajibade was struggling.
