Violence at Abortion Clinics on the Rise: Survey

The highest recent peak was in the '90s

A new report found that anti-abortion violence is higher than it has been in 20 years, NBC News reported.

The 2016 National Clinic Violence Survey found that 34.2 percent of abortion providers in the United States reported "severe violence or threats of violence" in the first half of 2016.

Abortion providers in the U.S. were the target of three murders, nine attempted murders and 94 death threats in 2015. And although the numbers "leveled out" in 2016, according to Vickie Saporta, president of the National Abortion Federation, the numbers are higher than the '90s, when anti-abortion terrorism peaked.

With the rise in violence, the recent confirmation of Jeff Sessions—known for being anti-abortion—as Attorney General has some abortion advocates on edge. During his confirmation hearings, he doubled down on his anti-abortion position.
