Tornado Provides Perfect Backdrop for Storm Chaser's Proposal

"I thought it would be kind of cool to combine the two best things in my life"

Some romances are fiery, others are electric. For Alex Bartholomew and Britney Fox, it's windswept, with a chance of diving for cover.

Bartholomew is an avid storm chaser, driving after tornado-producing weather systems to get a glimpse of their power. On Tuesday in the Texas Panhandle, with a funnel cloud whirling in the distance, he got down on one knee and asked Fox, his girlfriend of one year, to marry him.

"I thought it would be kind of cool to combine the two best things in my life," he told NBC News.

Bartholomew posted the photos of his propsal that a friend took to Facebook, writing, "I can't quite describe the feeling that has overcome me. Elated, ecstatic, overjoyed, just plain damn happy. I seriously couldn't ask for a better life and I can't wait to spend it with her by my side."

The pictures have been shared more than 500 times, while video of the proposal has been seen more than 6,000 times.

Tornados were spotted near McLean, Texas, where the proposal took place. Storms produced twisters up and down the midsection of the country Tuesday, killing one person in Wisconsin and another in Oklahoma.

Bartholomew and Fox, both 25, live in Temple, Texas, and work together at a Home Depot. Fox told NBC News she has always wanted to share Bartholomew's love of storms

"I always wanted to be with him so he can share what he loves with me," she said.
