Rockefeller Tree Cut Down in Connecticut, to Be Brought to NYC

The tree that will usher in the holiday season at Rockefeller Plaza has been cut down in Connecticut and will be brought to Manhattan on Friday.

Crews have been preparing the 76-foot-tall Norway Spruce in Shelton for its trip to New York for the past few days.

The 12-ton tree is expected to arrive in midtown Friday morning on a flatbed truck, with "Today" show weather anchor Al Roker leading the way. It will be lit Dec. 4 and remain on display through Jan. 7.

The last time the Rockefeller Christmas tree was chosen from Shelton was in 2007, but Connecticut has supplied several high-profile pines in the past.

In 2010, a 70-foot-tall tree that grew in Easton was chosen. After the season was over, it was used to build a Habitat for Humanity home in Stamford.
