Protesters Accused of Trying to Climb Rockefeller Center Tree

Several protesters were arrested Monday night outside Rockefeller Center in Manhattan after at least three attempted to climb the center's iconic tree, police say.

Five protesters were cuffed by the holiday display at about 8 p.m. after police say the trio tried to scale the evergreen.

As authorities detained the trio, another two allegedly interfered with officers and were also arrested, according to the NYPD.

The disturbance came amid a large demonstration in the midtown office complex over the shooting death of Chicago teen Laquan McDonald and the handling of the case by that city's police department and mayoral administration.

Video captured from near the tree Monday night shows police and protesters shoving one another alongside Fifth Avenue.
