Nine Hurt in Collapse at Baltimore County Steel Mill

Nine workers were injured, four critically, in a building collapse at a former steel mill in Baltimore County.

County police and fire departments responded to the former Bethlehem Steel Corp. plant in Dundalk, Md., around 10 a.m. Monday.

The collapse occurred when the roof of a building being demolished caved in, said fire department spokesperson Lt. Paul Massarelli. Workers were tearing the building down, "and it just came down faster than they wanted it to," Massarelli said.

He says the workers in critical condition were taken to Shock Trauma, and the others were taken to nearby hospitals.

Massarelli says officials from state and federal occupational safety and health agencies and county police will investigate the collapse.
