Singer Jenni Rivera Dies in Plane Crash

Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera died in a plane crash Saturday night, her father and brother confirmed to Telemundo. The wreckage of the plane was found in northern Mexico. Authorities said there were no survivors. Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, Mexico's secretary of communications and transport said that the plane was not recognizable, but evidence suggested it was the aircraft carrying Rivera, two pilots and four other passengers, Telemundo reported. Born in Long Beach, Calif., to Mexican immigrant parents, Rivera has sold approximately 15 million records with songs focusing mostly on love and loss. The so-called "Diva of the Banda" recently won two Billboard Mexican Music Awards: Female Artist of the Year and Banda Album of the Year for "Joyas prestadas: Banda." Her famous songs include "La Gran Senora" and "De Contrabando." Rivera leaves behind five children.
