2nd Autopsy to Be Done on Body of ‘Baby Bella'

A mother and her boyfriend agreed in court Tuesday to allow a second autopsy to be performed on the 2-year-old girl who became known as "Baby Doe" after her remains washed up on a Boston Harbor beach.

Rachelle Bond and her boyfriend, Michael McCarthy, were charged last month in connection with the death of Bond's daughter, Bella.

Both appeared in Dorchester District Court Tuesday morning, where Bella's father said he was "disgusted" to see Bond.

All parties agreed to a second autopsy of Bella's body Tuesday morning. Bond's attorney said the autopsy will be conducted by experts hired by defense and overseen by the state.

She added that Bond "just sobs with her head down" when she is visited by her attorney.

Bella's body was found in a trash bag on Massachusetts' Deer Island in June. State authorities launched a massive investigation to find out who she was and how she died. Police received a tip three months later after Bond allegedly told a friend McCarthy had killed Bella.

McCarthy's lawyer has said his client knew nothing about Bella's death.

Bond remains held on $1 million bail and McCarthy is being held without bail. A probable cause hearing has been set for Nov. 19. Bond's attorney said the second autopsy will be completed by then.
