Cops: Mom Stabs Son in Argument Over Birds

A Manchester, New Hampshire, mother stabbed her son during an argument over the son's birds, according to police.

Manchester police say the incident happened Sunday morning at the home of Bernadette Alvarez, 40. Alvarez's 18-year-old son went to the emergency room with a stab wound in his back and said the stabbing happened after they argued about getting rid of the birds.

The son said at some point during the argument his mother grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him.

Police said the stabbing caused a non-life-threatening puncture to his upper shoulder.

Police arrested Alvarez and charged her with first degree assault. Police additionally found a knife which had been wiped clean. Because of that, Alvarez was also charged with falsifying physical evidence.

Alvarez will appear in court Monday. It is not known if she has an attorney.
