Brookfield Official Resigns Over Newtown Facebook Comment

A school board member in Brookfield, Connecticut has resigned amid an outcry over his comment that he would observe the anniversary of the Newtown school shooting by distributing ammunition.

During a tribute to the Newtown shooting victims, called "26 Days of Kindness," Gregory Beck wrote on Facebook that his acts of kindness would be giving ammunition to his friends on each of the 26 days. He later apologized.

The "26 Days of Kindness" ran from Nov. 19 through Dec. 14, honoring each of the 20 first graders and six staff members killed in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

After his Facebook post, there were several calls for Beck to resign from the Board of Education in Brookfield, which borders Newtown.

Beck left the board on Tuesday, just two months after being elected. His resignation was immediate, according to the superintendent’s office.

Beck faces town ethics complaints for posting the comment while working as a local emergency services dispatcher.
