7-Year-Old Girl Found Dead in Bed in New Rochelle Home; Father Charged With Murder

The child's father was taken to a hospital with lacerations to his wrist

The father of a 7-year-old girl found dead in her Westchester County bed Tuesday afternoon has been charged with murder, authorities say.

Neil White, 47, was discovered bleeding from wounds to his wrist when police responded to a 911 call at his New Rochelle home around 3:20 p.m. He was later taken into custody, and charged Wednesday with second-degree murder.

Police say the little girl appears to have been suffocated or strangled, though the medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to confirm how she died.

Her father did not enter a plea at his hospital arraignment Wednesday. Attorney information wasn't available.

The child, a second grader at William B. Ward Elementary School, was the daughter of Michelle Hord-White, a vice president at NBC Universal.

Officials say grief counselors will be available at the school Wednesday to help staff and students.
