ZooLights End Early Due to Extreme Cold

Lincoln Park Zoo announced Saturday that the popular ZooLights exhibit would not be open Sunday due to a "frigid weather forecast" in Chicago, making Saturday the final night of the event for this season.

The zoo's ice skating rink will also be closed Sunday, but the zoo will be open during their normal house of 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The ZooLights have been a Chicago tradition for 19 years.

"The zoo apologizes for any inconvenience, but safety is an utmost priority," officials said in a statement.

Forecast models show frigid temps for the weekend, with a high of 30 degrees predicted for Saturday and a high of 10 degrees expected Sunday.

Snow is also set to move into Chicago Saturday night and will continue to fall into the afternoon hours Sunday.

Snow accumulations between 5-10 inches are expected by Sunday, with heavier totals in areas south of Chicago.
