As Opening Day looms on the North Side, the Chicago Cubs are preparing to unveil some spectacular new additions in and around Wrigley Field.

The historic ballpark has been undergoing a massive renovation in recent years, with the bleachers and with a variety of new additions to the park having already been unveiled.

This year, several new features will be opened to the public, including the new Hotel Zachary, located across the street from the ballpark. According to Cubs PR guru Julian Green, the hotel is now taking reservations beginning on April 23 (coincidentally Wrigley Field’s birthday), and fans will be able to stay near the park when they come to games at the Friendly Confines.

Another big part of the project also saw the dugouts moved down the left and right field foul lines. Those moves were part of a plan to open a series of three new clubs under the stadium, with one of them opening for the 2018 campaign and the other two to be opened for the 2019 season.

All of that work has left Wrigley Field looking quite unfinished with just a month until the Cubs’ home opener on April 9, but Green says that the team will be done with all the work by that target date.

 “Absolutely. We have no other choice,” he told WGN’s John Williams.

The renovations are all part of the team’s 1060 Project, which is entering its sixth phase, according to Green. Renovations to the visitors’ clubhouse, upper deck concession areas, and the addition of a new ticket-holder club in the upper deck are on the docket in the future, and the entire project will cost around $1 billion by the time all is said and done.
